Venue Type: Drain
Description: The Warping Drain has a long history of excellent pike fishing producing 20 pound specimens regularly over the last twenty years. Scunthorpe Police Angling Club controls the fishing from Graizelound to the River Trent at Owston Ferry, day tickets are not available but with a growing portfolio of waters the club book represents good value at just £25. Several small roads cross the drain and provide good access to the fishing, which is from the south bank. The bottom is fairly even with the narrower Trent lock end seeing depths of 5 to 6 foot and the wider, shallower Pylon stretch averaging 3 foot deep and 20 yards across. The Pike were heavily targeted when the Warper burst onto the scene 20 years ago with fish to over 30lb being caught. The fishing deteriorated through the 1990s but I would never rule out a ‘twenty’ turning up, as the one shown did in 2003. Don't forget that the traditional closed season applies to this water.
